New Website

I'm going to start designing a new GoG website. I'm not happy with how much eye-candy the site currently has. It goes against my internal 'keep it simple, stupid' philosophy. So expect a few changes over the next month or so.

Event Mailing List

Date: 2006-12-04 17:35 PST
In order to encourage more coordinated activities, I've created a mailing list on the goldshire.com server. A new mailing list has been created so if you've been a member of GoG at any point and/or would be interested in grouping with us during events, please send an e-mail to honor at goldshire.com and ask to be added.

Where Has goldshire.com Been?

Being one of the few people who actually takes the time to read EULAs and Terms of Service legalese, I was presented with a dilemma in early August of this year. I was invited to participate within the Burning Crusade Alpha Test. One requirement for participation in this event is that you cannot be a guild leader who runs a website. This is probably due to the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) that we are still under. People participating in the Alpha portion of the Burning Crusade testing are still under an NDA to not discuss events we saw during the Alpha. No NDA exists for the Closed Beta that is currently underway. Once I was able to confirm that the website could be reactivated, I did so.

Fizzlegoober, Mascazar and Wolfram have decided to resign as officers but Fizzlegoober and Wolfram both plan on remaining active within the guild. Stepping into their formidable shoes will be Vivera, Thundra and Frostbyte. A list of all our officers is available under the ranks heading. Oldest Guild on Lightbringer!
Author: Honor
Date: 2005-09-20 18:00 PDT
It was confirmed by a GM today that the Guardians of Goldshire was the first, and therefore, the oldest guild on Lightbringer with a GuildID value of '1'. I turned in the charter on November 23rd at 12:05 in the morning. The servers went live around 10:40PM on the 22nd and I spent the first 15 minutes reserving names on various servers and the remaining hour getting 10 silver and gathering 12 names for the charter. Some of the people that signed the charter are still here today. They are Frostbyte, Thundar and Wolfram.

Guild In Flux
Author: Honor
Date: 2005-06-01 23:30 PST
As with anything that's dynamic, there will be change and the GoG is no exception. A recent large influx of 60th level players recently left due to the lack of high-level raiding. Something that we're discovering is a logistical nightmare to set up since everyone is available at different times with the majority of this group being on the East coast. That doesn't work out too well since the GoG is mostly a West coast guild.

So we're leaner and meaner again but we've been here before and I believe we're better for it.

Guildie Screenshots

The team of Samuelfisher, Binka, Sadiki (Fizzlegoober), Fantomx and Xglitch have put up some screenshots for everyone to enjoy! Samuelfisher isn't normal. I mean, anyone who would singlehandedly take on Ogrimmar at level 25 can't be normal! :-)

SoCal Guild Dinner #2
Author: Honor
Date: 2005-04-03 19:15 PST
I think it's time for another guild dinner. It's been three months since the last one and we're due. Same place, different time, different day.

April 9th @ 5:00 PM
Claim Jumper Restaurant
820 W. Huntington Dr.
Monrovia, CA 91016
626-359-0463

The following map shows the actual location of the restaurant. You can also get detailed directions by going directly to the Claim Jumper website. Be sure to look for the Monrovia location. If you're coming on the Eastbound 210, just turn right at the signal and it will be on your left side after you drive under the freeway overpass. If you're coming on the Westbound 210, drive straight across the street at the signal as it shares a parking lot with the Holiday Inn.

Maybe Thundor and Thundalina will make this one.

New Officers

Date: 2005-03-03 01:30 PST
We've added a few new officers to the GoG to make up for some recent openings. Joining the old group are Mascazar, Thundar and Fizzlegoober. They are, in alphabetical order:
  • Fizzlegoober
  • Mascazar
  • Shadowspown
  • Thundar
  • Wolfram
These people can deal with problems and invite new members into the guild. If you have any issues, please /whisper these people directly.

Please review the rules and ranks as they have been recently updated.

Black Friday

I feel hollow inside. It's a tough thing to keep everyone happy and despite your best efforts watch as things crumble around you. Some of the guild members were not happy with the direction of the guild and decided to leave. We lost 15% of our membership in a 24 hour period. A great number of these are people I consider friends insomuch that I may have never met them in real life but I did spend a significant amount of time 'with' them on-line in chat or on the phone. Three of the new officers left so we'll be having some new people to help steer the guild and hopefully prevent this from happening again. We've lost a lot of really good players and some high-level powerhouses but the GoG will survive.

Seattle Dinner
Author: Honor
Date: 2005-02-13 21:00 PST
It's pretty obvious that Thundar just
uttered 'shut it' once too often as
Kindridaura appears to be preparing
a devastating rank 12 Moonstrike.
I'm not 100% sure but from the look
on peoples faces, it would appear that
someone just passed the bill around.
Left to right: Some poor lady who was
in the shot, Zerokool, Finna, Thundar,
Thundra, Wolfram & Kindridaura.
It's good to know there are better
looking people in this guild than me.
The arrival of Wolfram into the Seattle area caused a great disturbance in the space/time continuum. Yes, the locals decided that a guild dinner was in order so they gathered at Chinook's to enjoy some seafood.

The attendees were, in alphabetical order:

Alex (Wolfram)
Christina (Kindridaura)
Darbi (Thundra)
Elona (Finna)
Jim (Zerokool)
Sam (Thundar)

Contest Winner
Author: Honor
Date: 2005-02-11 01:00 PST
The winner of half of Honor's gold is...Honor! That's right not a single person attempted a guess. Heck, even a 100% incorrect answer would have won but since no one even made an attempt the only winner is me. Which is a good thing now since I have about 10 gold at the moment. Thanks to all those that participated. Err, oh never mind.

Win Some Gold!

The 'SERIOUS' photo.
I know what you're thinking,
'you staged that'. Nope. This photo
shows us in our natural states.
Soon all these men will be in jail.
Or at least the Stockades.
The location looks like the area in
front of the fire within the
Lion's Pride Inn.
DAMN that was a lot of fun! I'm talking about the LA Dinner meeting we had at Claim Jumper on Thursday night. We even took a couple of photos to mark the occassion. These photos are also part of a new contest! The details are below. You can win some gold! That's right, win half of Honor's coins! Whatever I have, at the time someone is correct, will get half of the total value of my coins! This might seem like a great thing but I should mention that I have about 4g on me at the moment. I'm a paladin, I don't have to save for a mount at 40! :-)

The attendees were, in the order they arrived:

Alex (Wolfram)
Tom (Frostbyte)
Vaughn (Woosh)
Chris (Mascazar)
Brian (Honor)
Dave (Vaygus)
Paul (Krakka)

Yep, Thundor didn't show so I'm sending him the bill directly.

We have some seriously great and fun people in this guild. I'm sure that if the manager hadn't come back to kick us out, we'd have stayed 'til closing! The WoW topics were hot and heavy. Everyone had a great time, unless they laugh when they're miserable, so we're definitely going to do it again but next time we'll have more than 24 hours to plan it out! For the short notice, the turnout was surprisingly good.

CONTEST DETAILS : We're numbering the clowns in the 'jail' photo above from 1 to 7, left to right. Make your guesses and send them to honor at goldshire dot com or /tell me directly in the game. You can click on the photos to get a larger image. If you look closely, you can see some clues. When I get an answer, I'll reply letting you know which ones you have correct. And yes, attendees are ineligible for this quest.

Los Angeles Area Meeting

I noticed Thundor was coming to the LA area on Thursday so I fired off a quick message to Honor about having a local dinner event. I received a 'great idea, you do all the work' response so here are the details!

Claim Jumper Restaurant
820 W. Huntington Dr.
Monrovia, CA 91016
626-359-0463
8:00 PM

The following map shows the actual location of the restaurant. You can also get detailed directions by going directly to the Claim Jumper website. Be sure to look for the Monrovia location. If you're coming on the Eastbound 210, just turn right at the signal and it will be on your left side after you drive under the freeway overpass. If you're coming on the Westbound 210, drive straight across the street at the signal as it shares a parking lot with the Holiday Inn.

I'm not 100% sure but I think Thundor is buying. :-)

WoW Christmas Carols
Author: Torris
Date: 2004-12-25 15:00 PST
And now, for your holiday enjoyment, we present the almost-musically-gifted Paladin of the Light, Torris the Off-Key!

Deck The Gnolls
Deck the Gnolls with Spells and Hammers; fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Loot their paws for Fame and Glamour; fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Don we now their dropped buff armor; fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!
Slay the boss and save the farmer; fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!

Oh Succubus
Oh Succubus, Oh Succubus; How lovely are your bulges!
Though mortal breasts are Double-D; Your heaving bosoms call to me.
Oh Succubus, Oh Succubus; How lovely are your bulges!

I'm Dreaming of a Grue Christmas
I'm Dreaming of a Grue Christmas; Just like the ones I used to know
Where the corpses glisten; and frostmanes listen ... For your footsteps in the snow.

Have a Gnolly, Trolly Christmas
Have a Gnolly, Trolly Christmas; it's the best time of the year
I don't know which ones regrow, but their skulls are piled right here.

The Newbie Christmas Song
Wolf Meat roasting on an open fire; Frostmanes nipping at their nose.
Trade channel spammers crying for a buyer; and barbie rogues with no clothes.

Nobody is a newbie or a munchkin, though; when asked they're always quite the shite.
Tiny Gnome mages who keep pulling aggro; will need resurrection tonight.

They know level 10 is on its way; they'll find lots of vendor trash and that's alright.
They know every vendor will gladly pay; that egg recipe they want to buy.

And so I'm offering this simple phrase; to levels twelve to sixty-two
Although you've done every class, every race; Newbie Christmas to you!

Happy Gnollidays!!

First Defense!
Author: Honor
Date: 2004-12-23 19:30 PST
In what I believe to be the first defense of Goldshire today at 6PM, the Guardians of Goldshire who were represented by Mascazar, Woosh, Wolfram and Honor sucessfully assisted additional Alliance forces in the defense of Goldshire from an attack by the following:
  • Level 39 Tauren Shaman
  • Level 33 Troll Rogue
  • Level 31 Troll Hunter
  • Level 27 Undead Mage
Notable events were Mascazar solo killing the other rogue member who was a few levels higher than him and Honor's 250 point crit of an Undead Mage that was her level that cause him to flee the battle.

Thanks to everyone that helped as we were able to keep the NPC deaths to a minimum!

Presenting the Tabard!
Author: Honor
Date: 2004-12-22 21:30 PST
Our new tabard design.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the voting for the tabard. We have our new tabard thanks to donations by the following members: Lessa, Edo, Wolfram, Mascazar, Benski, Purity, Shepherd, Gondo, Thundor, Thundar, Woosh and Honor. Special thanks go out to Lessa and Edo who both donated four gold initially to get the tabard quickly! In an effort to keep it fair, additional gold that arrived has been distributed to those that paid more than a single gold. Thanks everyone!

The tabard design tool in-game is very difficult to use as it's hard to see changes. This stems from the fact that the image is the same size as the character image within the [C]haracter screen. I removed my weapon and cloak in an effort to help get the correct design but after many attempts to 'see' the border changes, I guessed incorrectly. Once I get closer to level 40, since my mount is free being as I'm a Paladin, I'll throw 10 gold into a new tabard design with a new border which should be closer to what everyone voted on.

Everyone can now buy their Guardians of Goldshire tabard from a Tabard Vendor for 1 gold.

Final Tabard Vote
Author: Honor
Date: 2004-12-16 20:30 PST
It's my fault for having so many choices during the last vote but I wanted to see what everyone wanted to aim towards and the vote was clear, 'high contrast is better'. As such, I've chosen the top three vote getters and put them here for your final choice. I promise that this is the final tabard vote as I'll be registering it on Friday night. You'll note that the old #1 is missing even though it came in third place. Those voting for it felt it needed more contrast and recommended that I flip the boarder and background colors. The problem is that the border does not have a dark green so it's not 100% correct. Since the old #1 was going to lose anyway, I did the modification and threw that one on here as the #3 choice. Please only vote once. Pick your favorite and e-mail your vote to honor at goldshire dot com or /tell honor your preference within the game. Once again, thank you for your patience during this process.

The guild members have voted and we have a winner! The 'tree' design, as it's become known, received all but one vote that was cast. As such, it's now time to nail down the colors a bit more. The original 'tree' design is #1 below. Please vote on one of the following choices. This will be our actual tabard design. You can e-mail your vote to honor at goldshire dot com or /tell honor your preference within the game.

I would like to thank everyone for their continued patience while content is being added to the site. I will be adding content as time allows. This is definitely preventing me from playing which is why I'm still level 10. Oh well, someone has to do it.

Stability Problems
Author: Honor
Date: 2004-11-24 23:59 PST
The WoW servers are experiencing stability problems today. The servers that are on-line are suffering from excessive lag. Fortunately, I will be out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday which should allow them time to address this issue. For those of you braving the lag, you have my sympathy. I will update the site and get more content on-line when I return.

Guilds Established
Author: Honor
Date: 2004-11-23 23:59 PST
The servers are on-line and we've got the guild established on both the Western and Eastern halves of the country. We're located on Lightbringer in the Pacific time zone and Lothar in the Eastern time zone.

Once again, if you want to join the guild, create a character on Lightbringer and add 'Honor' to your friends list. Once you see me on-line, just /whisper me a message and I'll get you all squared away.

This is pretty funny. This one is funny (NSFW) because my name really is Brian. But I was in the Closed Beta so I'm not as psychotic -- yet. The lag tonight almost has me there though.

The Countdown Starts
Author: Honor
Date: 2004-11-22 23:59 PST
Less than 24 hours until launch! I'm still working on the site but this can't wait! GoG will be focusing on "Lightbringer", a Pacific time zone server. We will also be establishing a presence on "Lothar", an Eastern time zone server.

Look for 'Honor' at 12:01 Tuesday morning on 'Lightbringer' to get your invite. Just /w to 'Honor' the name of the GoG guild leader during closed beta to be added immediately.

Website Construction

I continue to work on the site but it's going slower than I had anticipated. I'm learning Photoshop as I go but things are moving forward. I will be using Sunday and Monday to get the site into a more acceptable format.
